As I'm sure you're aware, the issue isn't the language, per se, the 
issue is the inaccessibility of a way to figure out how to make the 
incomprehensible speech *stop already*.

There are so many things about those machines that are unsuspected 
until they kick you in the metaphoric teeth. I remember the first 
time I knocked the bag over and something fell out...the machine 
angrily informed me that i had removed something from the bag! and 
when I put it back in , I was churlishly informed that I hadn't 
scanned the item I'd put in the bag...take it out of there! It took 2 
"help" clerks 15 minutes to back out the problem, since the system 
also wouldn't let them just shut it down and start over.

If you're that concerned about buyer theft, maybe you should bite the 
bullet and hire enough clerks!
