Hello all,
Actually, the iPod Touch does seem to have have some PIM functionality. There are Calendar & Contacts icons on the main screen.
Regarding the "nail in the coffin" comment, though, I hate to rain on the Apple fanboy parade but there are scads of things the iPhone can't do that many other phones can...for example, my phone can:
- send and receive text and MMS messages, POP/IMAP/etc. Email and Outlook push email
- use turn-based mapping software that audibly states directions using GPS (in my case, via a separate unit)
- create and edit documnts & spreadsheets, read PDFs (if I have to) and slideshows, and all while offline
- use IM programs bringing together all my profiles (e.g. AIM, Yahoo, etc.)
- take, edit and upload photos to Flickr and other photo services
- play music, videos and audiobooks, and watch YouTube (via te same mobile site that the iPhone accesses)
- access web sites using a Firefox-like tabbed browser
- remotely access networked servers
- use Bluetooth, WiFi, and 3G data networks
- did I mention that it actually makes calls and has a speakerphone?
- plus I have a full sliding keyboard that is multi-touch in it's own special way
OK, so why am I saying this? Not to be argumentative by any means...the iPhone is great, and a great @first step at . But Apple bit off a very manageable set of features to redesign. Arguably the most basic sets of information and functionality. Before it truly earns the JesusPhone moniker it has a long way to go, IMO. But of course that version will probably be out by Halloween and obsolete by Christmas ;-)
