[IxDA Discuss] The biggest usability problem with Windows

Hi Ron,
The "5 min" boot time was time that's my reality. Choose your minute duration. And my point wasn't necessarily about a problem with windows that the mac lacks, just a problem I have with my system (which happens to be windows).
Looks like for various reasons, your systems boot quicker than 5 mins, which is great. My office laptop doesn't. On my system though, it really is about 5. I don't think it's entirely the OS's fault (some thrust-and-parry with the domain controller, getting on the network, startup of mandatory enterprise services, connecting with mappings etc.), but it sure would make it much quicker overall if at least the OS booted quickly.
That's what it takes for my computer to be ready for work when restarted. To be fair it is much quicker (i.e. I can live with it) when the machine is reinstalled with OS and has nothing else on it.
But at the end of the day, it's the mileage one gets on the road rather than in the lab that counts, no?

<5 Minute startup time?
Just a quick test on slightly unequal systems:
iMac G5, OS X 10.4.10 , nothing but DragThing to start after logging in:
* Power On to Login: 45 seconds
* Login to All Apps Loaded, Ready to go: 30 seconds
Fujitsu Lifebook (TabletPC) 4215, Windows XP, loading at least Symantec
Network Center, OneNote Helper, Rainmeter, Rainlender, Acrobat
Assistant, Alias Sketchbook Snapshot upon logging in:
* Power On to Login: 52 seconds
* Login to All Apps Loaded, Ready to go: 75 seconds
Yes, the delay is undesirable, and I would much rather be able to use my
system immediately upon startup (which is why I tend to put both to
sleep or to Standby). Yes, Mac OS X is faster (though has less to
load). But, the delay is hardly 5 minutes.
I would like to see tests on similarly equipped systems (in other words,
with similar apps / utilities to load) before we label Windows as having
a problem that Mac OS X lacks.>
