Why do you have to prototype in the language it will be built in? I'm  
sure that would be ideal (and occasionally necessary) and does work  
well on the web, but for desktop apps, mobile, and devices, because  
of the barrier to entry that the language/mechanics/materials cause,  
it's often impractical. You just need to be aware of what the  
language/mechanics/materials constraints are when prototyping in  
another format/form. During development/pre-manufacturing you can  
make any design choices that are caused by the building in the actual  
language/materials.

Looking down from Mt. Olympus on the real world, I have to say this  
isn't theory. This is how I work, and I've been both a consultant and  
in-house. If you don't think consultants suffer the same real world  
considerations that in-house designers do, you are mistaken. The  
constraints, in fact, are often worse, since we typically only get a  
percentage of in-house's money and time, and we have to supply our  
own resources.
