If you have the right experience, you're more likely to find yourself taking
a short freelance contract working for (and in the offices of) an existing
web agency. However, the market has been really quiet for the past three
weeks or so and most of the interactive design vacancies available seem to
be full-time staff roles.
If you don't have any specific previous experience as an interaction
designer, then you'd probably be best taking a staff role for a while to
gain the right experience 'on paper' before going freelance.
I hope this helps.
All the best,
