[IxDA Discuss] Anonymous user participation: results

Not long ago (i.e.) in the last couple of years there was a large community-based site that experimented with eliminating their registration process, allowing users to write comments and forum posts anonymously. Their results were encouraging - higher user participation and very little increase in spam/trolling. I'm trying to find a reference to this case but haven't had much luck - does this ring a bell with anyone? I want to say it was About.com, but that is probably wrong since my searches in that vein haven't yielded much.
