I tend to use research to refer to any investigative or fact finding
efforts (including researching other research) to prepare for problem
definition or resolve. I find it easier to call in-line concept
research "testing", unless I am talking to the client. I have had
clients incorrectly interpret testing as a pass/fail situation. I am
sure there are more rigorous and formal definitions from academia.
