Hi Andrea

There are quite a lot of resources on the net about aural tones and  
their use.

I am teaching a short course in sound design to my interaction design  
students, and some links are collected on the course blog.  I hope  
this helps you and gives you some pointers.  There is a great Youtube  
video of Robert Fripp making aural tones for Vista.  For any Fripp  
fans it makes great watching, even though the quality is poor.
