Avaya Inc. is searching for a full-time User Experience Engineer to join the
Human Factors/User Experience team responsible for the definition of users
experiences and the user interface/interaction design of next-generation
communication products, including VoIP telephones, hand-held devices and
communications applications over mobile endpoints.
Specific Job Descriptions:
- Conduct customer research, through appropriate methodologies as
required by the target products or market, to understand user needs,
behavior, and anticipated features. Define use cases with technology
partners in the company.
- Apply User-Centered Design principles to design embedded user
interfaces and human-device interactions.
- Create low- or high-fidelity prototypes for illustrating design
concepts and communicate detailed user interaction and operations for the
product team members, working closely with product management, system
engineers, developers, technical writers, and system testers.
- Planning and execution of usability testing at different stages,
including prototype testing, task-oriented usability testing, and focus
groups.
- Define specifications and create requirements documents to assist in
product development.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degrees in Cognitive Science, Interface Design, Interaction
Design, HCI, Industrial Design, or related areas.
- 3+ years of experiences in interaction or user interface design;
experience with hardware and device design will be specially valued.
Initial hiring level and duties will be evaluated according to experiences
and design samples. Junior level applicants will also be considered.
- Strong prototyping, design illustration skills, and proficiency in
tools such as Visual Basic, Macromedia Flash/Flex, Dreamweaver, Visio,
PowerPoint are important.
- Experience using computer graphics tools such as Adobe Illustrator,
Photoshop, and Macromedia Fireworks. Ability to design, create and optimize
graphical assets and typography is a plus.
- Good writing, presentation, and communication skills are essential.
- Willingness to take initiative, work hard and learn new skills, and
fulfill commitments under fast product cycles.
