I agree, and I'm the same way (although I do new tabs instead of new
windows), but I think this is a bit of a power user behavior. Having
watched the 'average' corporate user at my job struggle with and
through buttons in their task bar (in this case the multiple IE
windows), it can be very hard for them to find their way back to one
particular window if the constancy of the Back button is broken.
Also, I found myself exclusively doing the Cmd-click behavior on
search results only when tabs became available (in Firefox or what-
have-you) because then opening a search hit in a tab meant that I
would still be in the same window. Even for a techie like me, I
*hated* having multiple windows open. Still do.
