Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Using the border as the root of the interface is not optimized for large
monitors (or resolutions)... and that has to be solved. I've not digitalized
all the ideas of ZenSUI partly because they are not consistent (ie: various
possible solutions for one problem). But I've thought of large resolutions.
The border + the current pixel/location is proposed as the root of the
interface. This is redundant:
The border is organized as 8 zones; 4 corners + (4 borders - the corners).
This should be enough functionality for the system-wide, commonly used OS
funtions/features (and open space for applications... like a 1DM image
editor toolbox in the
border<http://www.asktog.com/columns/022DesignedToGiveFitts.html>).
The idea is to organized it as groups of similar functions (for example: one
close/open corner to handle user sessions and power/energy). To give
flexibility, it is meant to use plug-ins and be user configurable (the
location of each group, add or remove "groups").
Since the pointer is always visible on the screen, the user can always 'just
click' without moving it. I suppose that users of large screens (I don't
have one to test) doesn't maximize. That leaves enough space "on the
desktop" to click. There's also the possibility of using a 2nd or 3rd click
anywhere that opens a 1DM with the 8 zones. Users of small or medium screens
can use the border, and users of larger screens can use the current
pixel/pointer-position. This can be implemented in some different ways
(using a 1DM with all the functions of the OS, or a 1DM with the 8 main
zones that opens another level... or even a small "screen" with
Wii/iPhone-like "channels"/icons).
ZenSUI is a pre-alpha design with a team of 1 (it's fun even that way, but
later I plan to gather a real team), it doesn't even have a demo... but the
idea is to be openly discussed and raise collaborations of designers,
developers and users with time.
