Robert,

Thanks for that perspective.  I think you're eluding to some of the
sentiments I expressed%u2014that synthesis is not limited to strategy
(though it can be a part of it) and to your point%u2014yes things like
persona fall into the "output" category.  Narratives which help move
people to action.  

I think the artifacts are changing (beyond personas) and can include
multiple disciplines such as those found in strategy.  But mostly
your thought helps validate my feeling that this is indeed synthesis.
