Can I change my answer, is it too late? The penny dropped when Bret pointed
out a leaning towards not displaying the parent.

I now see the reason you would want to keep the child node content
on-screen.  The action of collapsing a parent does not implicitly mean
display its content.  If this is the  reason you're hesitant (you've
probably seen this in operation and dont like it) Can I suggest blanking the
content fields?  This would fully align the design with the file tree
pattern.

However, you cant blank, I do think the unexpected action of displaying the
parents content on a collapse trumps leaving the child contents onscreen
when the user has clicked away form the child.
