I am currently working on several online applications with very complex
business rules. I am hoping those of you on this list might be able to refer
me to interesting solutions for and/or examples of the following:
-- Workflow UIs (e.g. where more than one user is involved in a multi-step
process) . how many ways are there to treat a workflow?
-- A user comes into the application with the need to modify an existing
record, but has to locate it first... what is the quickest way to enable
this within the context of an application that has a lot of other
functionality that is equal or greater in priority to the modify function? I
am seeing mostly the following scenario: User clicks a 'modify account' menu
item and sees a mostly blank screen with a search interface available at the
top of the screen. They then have to enter criteria, submit the search,
select the result account they want to modify, and then get to the actual
activity of doing the modification.
-- Application enables users to create several different types of records.
Some of these records have complex multi-step processes, such as open an
account. I have seen a multitude of ways of portraying these semi-wizard
like steps, but haven't seen anything too interesting or innovative around
this. I don't really like the tab interface beneath the main menu structure.
can anyone point me to other good solutions? One of the issues is that there
needs to be incremental saves as the users move from inputing one data set
(sub-sets of the record) to the next.
Thanks!!!
Anastasia
