[IxDA Discuss] Bookmarks Managment Brainstorming

Hi Esteban,

About three years ago I got sick of the bookmark/browser management
systems you mention and built my own. It is a php script interfacing
with a mysql database that runs off my private server and is password
protected.

Its primary interface components are: 1) a dominant search engine
query box 2) a basic/rapid form entry for adding new urls 3) a section
of 12 frequently used/important links (which I change as needed by
hand) and which are listed prominently at the top 4) three categories
of links of lesser-used but important links 4) two note-pad fields
which allow jotting quick notes and saving them to the server.

I predominantly use the 12 links at the top, the notepad, and the add
url box. For more obscure items i've visited, I use the search engine.
This also takes the place of folders as i use similar keywords to
label new entries and can search for things like 'shopping'. I also
experimented with an auto-created 'frequently-used-list', but it
changed order too often and didn't have exactly the items I wanted it
in it, so I resorted to a manually-sorted option. I am also playing
with an online-storage area where I can upload/download files to the
server for storage and remote access easily.

This solution allows me to rapidly access my bookmarks and my notepad
from anywhere I am with web access. This may be similar to what
delicious has been up to, but I haven't bothered to look at
competitors recently as I have no complaints with what I'm currently
using.

Cheers,
Jeff
