[IxDA Discuss] Bookmarks Managment Brainstorming

You do not have to make every bookmark public using this.
The Add-on is available through the Firefox Add-on site. It is easiest to
find it under "recommended".
Here is the direct link: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3615/

One feature that springs to mind that I would like to see in the add-on is
the ability to search tags globally and not just my own tags, and do it
within the sidebar. Like, look at my tag for "interactiondesign" and then
say, show me all bookmarks with the tag "interactiondesign" posted in the
last 7 days or something like that.

I mean, what's the point of using Del.icio.us for this if I'm not going to
get the advantage of the global community of bookmark taggers.

There are other multi-browser/desktop bookmark sync services, but none that
are as popular as del.icio.us for its global tagging community of public
bookmarks.

Another feature of interest would be an easy way to turn Digg links into
Del.icio.us bookmarks but still know that I got them through digg ... Yes, I
know I could add a tag called "Digg", but I would hope for something more
programatic.

Hi,

What's the "Del.icio.us Add-on from Yahoo!"?

I just register in del.icio.us as "zensui.org" ...every bookmark goes to a
public website, right? It may have useful features, but it doesn't suit some
(paranoid) users (like me =P) that prefer not to have 100% of the bookmarks
public.

*resisting urge to make public all my bookmarks*

2006/11/23, David Malouf <dave at ixda.org>:

HI Esteban,

I use Del.icio.us + Firefox + the Del.icio.us Add-on from Yahoo!.
It takes over the entire bookmark management service of Firefox and does a
few things that I have grown to like:

1. Searchable bookmarks by either tag or title of Bookmark (you don't have
to choose, it just shows you.

2. Tag navigation. It lists all my tags (or those filtered by the search
query) and then you can expand a tag and then see those bookmarks limited to
that tag.

3. Of course there is an easy dialog for adding bookmarks to del.icio.us.

4. Whatever machine I'm on, has all my bookmarks (Home, office, laptop,
etc.) Because the add-on logs in.

5. For each individual machine the bookmark toolbar is taken over by
del.icio.us with the following view options: "Most Viewed", "Recently
Added", or you can create your own tag(s) to be viewed on the toolbar.

To me this has made del.icio.us finally useful to me, as the hosted model
for bookmark management seems to be ideal for me as someone who uses a lot
of machines.

Anyway, I'm sure there is some fodder in here to help with your
brainstorming for bookmark management. I'm sure there are many other
features that would help.

I do have to say that I thought I loved my bookmark system with heirarchical

folders previously, but really don't miss them now that I have this
del.icio.us sidebar and bookmark system.
