[IxDA Discuss] Am I a Unicorn?

Yes, I am applying for programmer positions. I lack the degree and full time
experience of an Interaction Designer, and there's only 1 company in town
that I know of that uses IxD and I would rather be homeless than work there.
There just isn't much IxD in Nashville.
I have the development experience to get a programming job, so my focus was
to find a company that needed a developer with strong UI skills. I've been
told I will have a lot of say in the rewrite of the software, so I'm hoping
I made the right choice working there. We'll see if they'll put my design
skills to work or just be another code-as-you-go shop.

Dan,
I'm going to read between the lines here and assume that you were
interviewing for a developer/programmer position. In my experience
programmers generally don't make the best interaction architects (though you
will get lucky and find a few). Also, if I wanted an interface designer, I
would post the job as such, not for a programmer.
Perhaps you were just responding to the wrong job postings?
Lorne
P.S. The proof is in the pudding: if you go to work, put in the UI effort
and produce good output ... you will make a splash. Trust me.
Good luck!
