First - Understand the value that design brings the project and the  
enterprise.

Second - Speak in terms of Return On Investment (ROI) and communicate  
that value.

If you are going to be a designer working with business people, then  
you need to learn to think and talk a bit like a business person.  
Think of the same situation... only the target is a country with a  
different culture and language. In the latter situation, most  
designers would be all over the challenge. Unfortunately, in the  
former, designers tend to wimp out and whine. Make this a part of the  
design constraints and deal with it. I can't tell you how tired I am  
of designers using business and the "they don't get me or what I do'  
as an excuse.
