User Experience Director - Cisco
Title: User Experience Director Cisco Systems
Location: Silicon Valley
Salary: $175,000+ base plus generous bonus
Job Description:
The User Experience Architect supports both the tactical and strategic
goals of the Company website, with an emphasis on creating a superior
user experience and improving customer satisfaction. The position will
play a leading role in refining and improving the overall information
architecture, usability and visual design of the website and some
customer facing applications. This role will work directly with
directors responsible for the governance and prioritization of
development on the website.
The UE Architect leads a team of UE designers that include interaction
design, visual design and usability. The architect is responsible for
directing their processes, priorities and had sign-off approval on the
designs they create. The UE Architect and UE team works with
cross-functional teams from within Company to plan, prioritize and
deliver information architecture, information design, visual design/page
layouts, tools, services and applications to better support the
customer's needs. Additionally this team works with other user
experience design groups at Company to insure a cohesive customer
experience across all of Company's services and products.
Primary responsibilities focus on advising the business owners who
govern the website on the priorities they should be addressing to
improve the customer satisfaction and business efficacy of site from a
user experience point of view. As well as educating this group on best
practices around information architecture, visual design, usability and
the technologies for building, publishing and searching the site.
Responsibilities
* Develop and communicate user experience vision and strategy;
direct and oversee all user experience efforts for cisco.com
* Understand Company's business goals and translate them into
creative solutions on the Company website
* Manage all user experience resources, including interaction
design, information architecture, usability and visual design.
* Lead interaction design work and collaborates with internal and
external design vendors (corporate identity, corporate editorial,
usability and advertising)
* Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and conduct user requirements
analysis, task analysis, conceptual modeling, information architecture
design, interaction design, and usability testing
* Perform design reviews and usability testing during various
phases of the product development process to evaluate and iterate
designs
* Manage the design process, drive decisions, track issues, and
assist in estimating resource needs and schedules. Contribute to overall
project planning
* Negotiate business, technology and user experience tradeoffs
with other discipline leads.
* Work closely with project management, development, web marketing
and the business units to ensure project's business, quality, cost, and
schedule goals are met while insuring the site overall usability.
Qualifications
* At least seven years UE design experience
* Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and
methodology, including User Centered Design, Ethnographic Research,
Iterative Design and Visual Communication Design
* Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to
function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor
* Proven team-building skills
* Experience in gathering and documenting business, functional and
interaction requirements
* Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work with all levels in
the organization
* Strong leadership skills including strong strategic skills
* Strong negotiation skills
* Excellent meeting facilitation & small group presentation skill
* Strong project management skills - work plans, issues, lists,
planning and prioritizing
* Broad knowledge and advanced skills in visual design,
information architecture, usability evaluation, and appropriate
technologies
Ideal Candidate
Candidates must bring a substantive and successful track record in
designing large, multi-focused corporate websites both as a direct
contributor and as a team leader. In addition to a driving passion for
the craft, this individual must bring holistic knowledge of website
development and production.
In addition we are looking for:
* Exceptional Communication Abilities: This individual must have
a compelling communications style that will carry weight with both
business and technical audiences, as well as with external design
vendors. It is important that candidates demonstrate the ability for
distilling complex and ambiguous topics into easily understood concepts
and further turn them into prioritized initiatives that can be
implemented on the site.
* Ability to Lead Through Influence and Collaboration: Given the
nature of this role and the distributed nature of the Company website,
the ideal candidate must be skilled in working across functions,
organizations, and even geographic boundaries. It is necessary that
this individual have a strong bias for collaboration over personal
heroics; candidates need a track record of building formal and informal
relationships that engender trust and foster collaboration and
cooperation.
* Results Oriented. The ideal candidate must have a proven track
record of success in designing and producing corporate websites. The
ideal candidate will not be content to just create "cool design" but
will strive to develop design solutions that meet real customer needs
and address real market opportunities
