[IxDA Discuss] Resources for the Business of Design?

Amazingly few degree programs are offered in the USA (from the DMI page
mentioned by Markus and my own research) while there are lots in the UK.
Is that because the UK values Design to the point that they have a
Design Council?
Aside from the Design Management programs on the DMI list, there is
another trend in bringing "design thinking" into business. Stanford's d
school is not on the DMI list, but it's got innovation and business in
mind.
This trend is getting quite a lot of attention, although they are not
resources, which is what you've asked for specifically, Nathan. At the
DMI conference on "Empowering Innovation" in November '05 there were
some art schools there trying to work out how to bring business into
their curriculum. A big group from the Ringling School of Art, for
example.
Some business schools/art schools are getting their feet wet more
slowly. There have been several joint projects: MIT Sloan School and
SMFA
(http://www.smfa.edu/News_Exhibitions/News/MBA_meet_MFA_SMFA_offers_MIT_
Sloan_students_experimental_workshop.asp) which is highlighted in an
interesting article in BusinessWeek
:http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/content/mar2006/bs20060326_8436_bs
001.htm
Schools such as Toronto's Rotman School of Management also pushes the
concepts of design and creativity in business. See Roger Martin's list
of articles. http://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/rogermartin/publications.htm
Another good resource is the BusinessWeek Online Innovation & Design
channel
http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/index.html
I've been following all this with interest. You've already read Daniel
Pink "A Whole New Mind", I'm sure.
I probably have a few more articles on the topic which I can pass on
Nathan. Let me know. See you in October!

I'm doing research into degree programs around the world that offer a
combined business/design degree of some kind. This might be a masters
in design management or design strategy, etc. I don't "business" as
in "running your design business" but how design is successful inside
a corporate structure (either as a client or as an in-house
developer). I wondered if people on this list might have some
resources or programs to suggest.
Thanks,
