[IxDA Discuss] Browsing computers in a network management software

When I left Configuresoft we were considering tree-maps (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_map) for Machine Group display and
management. I still think it's a viable option considering data volume.
Before that we used dynamic pivoting data grids.

We also took a look at various dynamic "star-tree" examples similar to those
shown at VisualComplexity website and found them overwhelmingly visually
complex to be practical. Curiously one of our competitors has implemented
star-tree display for network management - marketing folks and customers
were fascinated, users never used them (of course, that outcome could have
been anticipated, if they had knowledgeable usability engineer).
