IUI works well for some specific interfaces, especially those that have
discrete tasks made up of a series of steps.
Microsoft is now pushing "Simple and Powerful" as design guidelines for
Windows Vista apps:

Of course Claris came up with this nearly 20 years ago with their "Simply
