Usability Design Engineer @ DIRECTV

Description

This position will be responsible to design, develop materials, and
conduct a variety of usability studies at all stages of the User
Centered Design cycle.  You will be identifying issues with off the
shelf, customized and proprietary computer systems by using
appropriate usability methodologies.  You will be responsible to
conduct and report on expert usability evaluations and create reports
and presentations for communicating the results of usability studies
to project teams and senior executives.

It will be expected that this position will be able to manage
usability projects from start to finish.  You will work with the
development team, project managers and business stakeholders to devise
solutions to problems discovered through usability activities.

Some travel will be required.


Qualifications
You must be able to develop usability assessment plans, conduct
performance-based usability tests and clearly convey the outcomes.
The candidate must also have knowledge of user-centered design
processes, human-computer interaction field and research design skills
in experimental design and observational methods.


A minimum of 5 years related experience with workflow and usability
analysis and recommending solutions to usability issues, including a 3
to 5 years demonstrated experience conducting usability studies.


You must be able to work efficiently and independently and possess the
drive and aptitude for learning rapidly and making contributions
immediately.  Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation
and interpersonal skills honed through years of working in
multi-disciplinary collaborative teams, are required.   You should
also have a proven track record of impacting the software development
process and the ability to take ownership of projects and produce work
of a very high standard without close supervision.


MA/MS degree in Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer
Interaction or equivalent experience is desired.  Experience in
web-based applications is highly desirable.
