I don't see that being informed about the human beings you are working
to serve is at all at odds with being passionate and creative.
In my experience, spending time upfront with users feeds my intuition
and sparks my imagination in ways that nothing else does.
I agree with Dan's comment about the use of the word "data." While there
is certainly some quantitative market research and usability data that
can be useful in ideation and justification, I'm really more interested
in qualititative data: *how* rather than *how many.*
