[IxDA Discuss] Experience Modelling - what do users want?

Hi Svenja,

Rick Robinson founded eLabs, which was then bought by Sapient. Rick
was really the pioneer who developed much of the methodology that was
then used briefly at Sapient under the title of "Experience
Modelling". Here is a brief link to a description of his approach:

It was very much about gaining first hand knowledge of the user. Rick
had a great metaphor that he used to explain what good research is.
When Jane Goodall wanted to study apes, she didn't go to the zoo, she
went into the jungle and tried to observe them in their natural
environment. He combined several various disciplines to gather
research and then used good psychology, business planning and design
approaches to abstract out of this research the underlying models
that could help to identify where they could improve the experience
for the user.

If you search in Google for "eLabs" and "Robinson", you will get
quite a few links. I used to have some of their brochures from 10
years back, but they have somehow disappeared in all of the moves. If
you find your self in Hamburg (you are in southern Denmark, aren't
you?) stop by our office and we can chat.

cheers,

John Grøtting
